out in the early
and found a season
melting on my tongue
like candy sweet
gone way too fast
as summer into fall
reminiscing
as mamas tend to do
the early years
two boys and a girl
carefree and joyous
and sometimes
not
but only snapshots now
moments lived
of day by day exuberant
thinking
it would never end
but end it does
with scarcely any fanfare
because
life unfolding
and unstoppable
pages turning
years fading
and really
it is beautiful
meant to be
especially
when we realize
as we have lately
all the days of a life
of our first-born son
falling like dominoes
toward
he saying "I do"
and she too
a groom and his bride
and it is exquisite
and we celebrating
on an ordinary day
making it anything
but
ordinary
and in the midst of this reverie
on my walk
out in the early
skies opening unannounced
rain pouring down
like a bucket overturned
comedic like and me laughing
running back
breathing in deep the sweet
nostalgic scent of summer rain
reminding
to cherish the moments
in the beautiful ordinary everyday
as well as
the extraordinary
of welcoming a new daughter
this beautiful girl
and champagne and toasts
and dancing into the night
a new season
pages turning
as summer into fall
Congratulations to Michael! She is beautiful!
